From the total length of 11.200 km of track, 22,6% (2412 km) represents double track for the enhancement of the capacity of transport of the circulation sections.
Since 1951, "The Company of Railway Construction Bucharest" has realized a double track on a length of 1952 km, from 2415 km of double tracks that exists in Romania at this moment.
The first double track in Romania was Iasi-Letcani (today Cucuteni) track, with a length of 14 km, inaugurated on January 25th in order to allow the circulation of the work trains necessary for the construction of Iasi-Dorohoi track.

The following tracks were also doubled (in chronological order):
- Bucuresti Nord-Ploiesti Sud (1891-1909)
- Ploiesti-Campina (1910-1912)
- Constanta-Cernavoda (1931)
- Adjud-Marasesti-Tecuci (1933)
- Teius Apahida (1938-1940)
- Campina-Brasov (1938-1941)
- Buzau-Marasesti (1940-1942)BRASOV

The biggest and most important works for doubling have been in the period after World Wars, 1966-1980. Thus the Company of Railway Constructions doubled 1379 km of track, as following:
- Faurei-Galati (1965-1971)
- Bucuresti-Rosiori-Craiova (1965-1972)
- Chitila-Golesti (1968-1972)
- Pantelimon- Cernavoda (1969-1971)
- Brasov-Campul Libertatii (1970-1974)
- Adjud-Suceava (1972-1975)
