In 1913,
the professor I.S.Gheorghiu designed the first project of
electrification for Sinaia-Pietrosita track and a project
for the extension of electrification on Sinaia-Preadeal
transom.
The law
no. 2749/ August 31st, 1929 is published in the Official
Gazette no. 170/ August 3rd, 1929. Thus the Ministry of
Communication, Industry and Commerce was authorized to
lease the project of the electrification for
Bucuresti-Brasov track, to the engineer Dimitrie Leonida
and the group of Romanian-English banks- "British
and Foreign Utilities Development Corporation".
The
General CFR Direction sustained that the electrification
for Bucharest-Brasov track, as a principal method of
enhancement of the transport capacity represented the
main priority. Some laws for the beginning of the project
are voted in 1929, 1934 and 1942, at the Romanian
Government proposal.
The commission, established in 1932 at the
initiative of General CFR Direction, chaired by the
professor Karpen Vasilescu (Rector of the Polytechnic
Institute in Bucharest), sustained the project of
electrification for Bucharest-Brasov track.
"The
Direction of Electrification", as part as General
CFR Direction, chaired by the engineer Dimitrie Leonida,
is established on September 12th 1942. Electrification of
Bucharest-Brasov track was begun on the basis of the law
no. 612/1942; unfortunately, because of the War the
project was abandoned.
The
beginning of electrification works on Bucharest-Brasov
track was decided in 1959.
The
electrification section Brasov-Predeal, the first track
with normal gauge in Romania, was opened on December 9th,
1965.
The
electrification section Predeal-Campina was opened on
April 20th, 1966.
The
circulation on Bucuresti-Brasov track was opened on
February 16th, 1969, in the most favorable
technical-economic and energetic system: single-phase
alternating current of 50 Hz industrial frequency Hz at
25 kW voltage.
