CSM feminine Handball League Iasi XXI

The CSM feminine Handball League Iasi XXI was set up by the Municipal Sportive Club Iasi in 1978. At the time, it was known due to the main sponsor as TEROM Iasi. The year the girls from Iasi appeared on the competition stage, they evolved on the B division. The work and effort promoted them in just a year in 1979 in the A division. Due to the support received from the part of the main sponsor, the handball team TEROM Iasi with the following members: Ion Haranga as coach, Nedelcu and Valcea as goal keepers, and Avadanei, Covaliuc, Dasca, Spiridon, Corban and Balici as players, could continue their training in the Polyvalent Hall of the city.
The players’ good evolution and whish to succeed made possible for the team to reach in the top both during the national championship as well as during international competitions. Their main achievements are:

à 1981 – second tour of the Major Cup
à 1985 – won the Romanian Cup and reached the third tour of the Major Cup
à 1989 – second place within the Romanian Cup qualifications
à 1990 – reaches the fourth tour and qualifies in the Major Cup semifinal.

In 1992, the TEROM team Iasi is again the winner of the Romanian Cup and participates in the European Cup competition. Later, a well-known businessman, Adrian Pascal, gave the team a new name: AURA Iasi. The financial support the team enjoyed at that moment and the players’ ambition to succeed, led to another success (that of 1993) – III position in the National League.
But, unfortunately, once this performance has been achieved, the team enters a less fortunate period of time for its carrier.
In 1994 the team changed again its name in CSM Iasi and in 1995 is no longer a part of the A division. Two years have been passed, years of trying to reorganize the team by the technical leadership. After many “fights behind walls”, in 1997 coach Veniamin Lupan manages to lead the team. He was a sport teacher at the Sportive High-school Iasi and is also known because of his well known carrier: 1989-1988 – perspective coach juniors’ B lot; 1991-1992 – second coach juniors’ A lot.
He managed to make up a team of younger sportive players, although less known: Cracana, Spataring, Ghiuzan as goal keeprs, and the players Lupan, Abalasei, Pinteala, Sandu, Nedelcu, Moruz, Ionescu, Palaric, Velicu, Lungu and Biderel. This team will qualify in the B Division of the national championship.
The following year, more exactly in 1998, is going to be a prolific year both for the coach and for the players. They advanced in A Division and participate to a tour in St. Gall, Switzerland, where they won IV place after Holland, KRAS Zagreb and Olympia Ljubljana, defeating the champion team OSC Amsterdam. Being now a very solid team, they succeed in qualifying for the National League.
During the championship of 1999-2000, the team will be protected by the sponsor SC Iasi XXI, a company created by the Iasi Municipality City Hall in order to support the performance sportive activity. Thus, the team succeeds in placing on X position of the National League.
CFR Iasi management is made up of people who are very passionate about sport and that is why they decided to protect from now on the destiny of this team. The team’s success is now in their hands and they are determined to provide all the support they can, in order to create the necessary climate for the team to participate again in national and international competitions. The team has even a new name –CSM Iasi XXI.
Now, the team has the following members: Veniamin Lupan- coach, Gabriela Spatariu and Livia Guizan – goalkeepers, Lenuta Lupan – inter, Beatrice Abalasei, Macrina Moruz, Ionela Lungu, anca Pinteala, Mihaela Sandu – extremes, Daniela Grosu and Anca Bidirel – pivots and Ancuta Bleoju – center.
At the moment some negotiations are held in order to supply the minus positions by transfers from National League and A Division.
As a priority for the 2000-2001 championship, the technical management and the team intend to qualify among the first eight teams of the National League, and for the future they would like to participate in the European Cup Competition.
