THE RAPID CFR TEIUS FOOTBALL TEAM
Year 1937 has meant for the railwaymen of the town of Teius, and not only for them, the establishment of the RAPID CFR TEIUS football team. The purpose was none other than establishing a place for railway workers to relax, as well as for the other inhabitants of the age-old locality on the bank of river Mures.
The first players of the team came largely from among railway workers, but also among the youths in the locality, and coaches were former sports players or teachers. The joy was enormous, and some sportsmen stood out. Here we can recall the Rancea brothers, Octavian Grupski, Ioan Scrobota, Efrem Rat, Iacob Hategan, Vasile Olteanu, teachers Boca and Berta, etc. Also, the successes scored in local and out-of-town matches made this football team, RAPID CFR TEIUS, known in many cities of the country. This has brought, in time, the acquisition of young talents from neighbouring localities: Stremt, Mihalt and Galda de Jos.
Of course, training conditions at that time were precarious: there were no locker rooms, adequate equipment, and training footballs. It was a very difficult period for the players. But now the material situation has improved, with two locker rooms and centrally heated baths. A room for referees and observers was also arranged.
Still, every football supporter and enthusiast, pondering on the situation, realises that to achieve the desired performance, the team needed more support.
Training sessions and official matches are organised on the Rapid CFR Teius Stadium, property of the CFR - SA National Railways Company. It seems, however, that the only person who has found the understanding to solve the teams financial situation was the director general, Viorel Simut.
Representatives of the football team and the Board of Administration hope that this year at least part of their most pressing problems will be solved.
Among others, the tribune, which is about 40 years old, needs to be consolidated and renovated. If it were possible to expand it with an extra 500 seats, the increasingly numerous supporters could safely and comfortably watch their favourite teams game. The playing surface also needs more attention.
Al[l these shortcomings cannot be solved without financial support. This is why a direct involvement of decision makers at the CFR Teius - Coslariu complex, and that of their trade unions, in finding financial resources, could help the teams promotion into the C Division.
One must not forget that the players have managed to take the 1st place in the D Division. Promotion to the C Division may be possible with financial assistance.
But we have forgotten to mention the teams performances, not only its problems.
The RAPID CFR Teius team has obtained three county champion titles, attended three promotion selections, but without a happy ending, and often was among the top three in the championship and in the upper stages of the Romanian Cup.
Today, the low includes the following players:
