Holidays Good Wishes

Mihai Necolaiciuc, president, general director CFR SA
"Although we have met certain problems, they have been solved in time, and the National Railway Company "CFR" SA has concluded this year quite well from the financial point of view.
Now, at the end of the year, on Bucharest - Campina railway section, the first section from the rehabilitation program, the traffic is unfolded normally (with 160 km/h) on both lines, as we have planned. Up to the next September I hope to finalize all the works stipulated in the rehabilitation program, with all its annexes.
We should not forget that we will have a very busy year in point of the modernization and the rehabilitation: in 2003 there will be started off a very well tuned up program aiming the modernization of the railway stations at the European standards.
I consider that 2002 has been an adjustment year for the passengers to the new travelling conditions on the railway. In the future, I am sure that we will provide a much better fluidity of the traffic and, why not, an increase of the degree of comfort. Even if 2003 is a "busier year" we will be prepared to face it!
Through the agency of the Railway Journal magazine I wish to the employees of CFR SA that 2003 to be a better year, or at least as good as 2002 and to the members of your editorial staff, besides the traditional Happy New Year!, and I wish them to maintain stacheta at the same level as up to the present time."

Vasile Olievschi, general director in MLPTL
"Year 2002 can be characterized by three major guiding marks. It has been a year in which we have got closer to the finalization of the first segment on the Corridor IV; I believe that one of the most important objectives that we have proposed. It is a confirmation of the quality of the new infrastructure, which we prepare for our passengers.
2002 is also the year in which the motorcars are brought to the Romanian Railways. This is another strategic direction that will change the image of the passengers' transport. Probably that in 15 years from now on there will be no classical slow trains, an only the motorcars and electrical motorcar, with the adequate comfort.
Thirdly, the Company CFR Marfa has succeeded on the euro-obligations market, they have succeeded to cumulate 120 million Euro without government obligations. So it is a good, reliable sign of the market.
At the end of the year we wish to the railway traffic to take a bigger part of the market in the future, in the conditions of full security and the satisfaction of all the requirements of our clients."

Ion Tulbure, general director CFR Marfa
" It has been a good year for our company and I declare myself satisfied with the way in which things have evolved in 2002. We have succeeded to use better the freight trains, namely the tonnage has been increased and the tariff kilometric distance of the goods and we have get productivity - the incomes per number of personnel - with 3% bigger than in 2001. We have also had special problems with the safety traffic and we have successfully concluded the issuance of the eurobonds.
In the next year we have proposed to use these eurobonds or the modernization of the locomotives and wagons, fact that allows us to increase the market quotation, and to offer new alternatives in the combined, intermodal and RO-LA transport.
So help us God that the next year will bring us good health, happiness and a lot of clients to the Romanian Railways!"

Valentin Bota, the general director CFR Calatori
"2002 is the first year when I clearly perceive the signs of an improvement at the travelling conditions on the railways. There have been put into operation modernized sleeping cars, modern intercity train sets and the first Desiro motorcars which operate on the secondary lines. This program will still continue in 2003.
Be all means, not everyone has proven to be delighted by the new coaches and train sets. I refer here to our employees, as well as to the certain passengers. The reasons we can call them only… egoistic. For example, the engine drivers are not satisfied because they can no longer steal the Diesel oil, some train assistants are bothered by the fact that too much non-divided space hinders them to accept bribery, and the passengers are not satisfied because they can no longer smoke. As in every activity field, when something new comes out there are also a lot of comments on.
There is probable that at the beginning we will have a lot of complains, yet in time we will try to find some solutions. For us, the client is very important.
2002 has been a special year, we have worked a lot in point of the increase of the discipline degree among the personnel.
With respect to the employees of the Company CFR Calatori I should thank them for their efforts. Without hard work we could not record these results, quite good in my opinion.
I wish them: Happy New Year! Good health, because in 2003 we should make a step forward, especially with respect to the attitude towards the passengers."

Ion Mihaila, the director of Bucharest Rail Region
"2002 has been a difficult year for the Railways, but in my opinion wreathed with a lot of successes. Further on, there will be needed a lot of work because the modernization program for the railway sections is in development stage. What I wish to our clients is that in the next year
to avoid having any delays in the train traffic.
To the employees I wish first of all Happy New Year! thanking them for their activity developed during the current year. To continue to work better together, because we have a lot of project to finalized."

Gheorghe Degeratu, the director of SC GEI Palat CFR
"The activity of the CFR Palace Exploitation and Maintenance Group in year 2002 has been rich, full of results and, in the same time, of…transformations. The fundamental change has been produce when, through the Government Decision no. 706/2002, GEI Palace CFR has become a trade company. Therefore, the contractual responsibility has been increased, the financial obligations and all the others tasks are the result of such a status.
We conclude the activity on 2002 in good conditions, because we have succeeded to pay to the suppliers of services with whom we are collaborating. Yet we should say that we still have to cash quite substantial amounts from the lessee of this building. After the Holidays time, we will have to start a campaign for collecting these amounts.
I wish to everyone that the winter Holidays time to be an advantageous one, a relaxation time, so that 2003 to be started with increased forces and to resume our activities in much better conditions.
Now, at the end of the year, I address to the SC GEI CFR Palace and to all the beneficiaries of the spaces from this building, nicely named CFR Palace, the traditional Happy New Year! And, in the same time, I wish them good health, many joys and only accomplishments!
I also wish to the members of the editorial staff of Railway Journal magazine happiness, the fulfillment of all the wishes and help them God to reach up to one thousand anniversaries! To everyone, a sincere Happy New Year!"

Dorina Mironescu, general director Informatica Feroviara SA
"We are expecting from year 2003 first of all to see operating the systems that we have created, especially the greatest investment in IT up to present time within the Railways, IRIS, and we hope to succeed the finalization and the extension of the ticketing system. These are ambitious programs, everyone has dedicated so much for them.
We also wish to settle the new Trade Company, a branch of CFR SA, registered on November 2002 - Informatica Feroviara SA. And, not at last, I wish to all my colleagues good health, a better year from all points of view, sending also good wishes to their families. I hope we will feel a change in better and to be able to become better, to have the strength to finalize what we have started and to permanently improve the image of the Railway IT."

Florentina Stan, Director Real Estate Department, CFR SA
"The year we are just concluding has brought important achievements with regard to the investments for the modernization of our touring objectives; and we are talking here especially about the hotels and the rest houses belonging to CFR SA and meant for you, the railway employees, the ones that are working hard day by day for the Railways. We are hoping that in the year to come we will fully use these facilities and we will spend the most wonderful relaxation moments.
Each of us has good days and bad days, but what we all have the same, year by year, are the Holidays, which we are trying to make as happy and warm as possible. I take advantage of the fact that we are right before such a moment to wish my sincere thought and feelings. I wish you from all my heart Happy New Year!"

Lucian Blaga, general inspector RGSCC, CFR SA
"As every time, at the conclusion of the annual activity, I express many thanks from all my heart to those that have taken part in the creation of a good image of the Railways, of CFR SA. And this was also made possible through the substantial improvement of the activity with respect to the safety traffic during the year we are about to conclude, because the railway employees have finally understood their vocation and the conditions in which the work tasks should be developed at the Railways. I thank them for that, on my behalf and also on Company's, and I wish them good health, everything they wish to and a lot of happiness!"

Viorel Scurtu, director of Tracks Department, CFR SA
"Taking into consideration the fact that there is one more week up to the moment when some of us will go home, on Holidays, and we are getting ready to celebrate together with the family, according to the Romanian tradition, the Christmas and the New Year, and part of us remain here to work, I wish to my colleagues, to my subordinates and all the employees of CFR SA, especially to those from Tracks branch, to have peaceful Holidays time, to those that are on duty, and to those that will be at home, together with their families, to be healthy, to enjoy the Holidays and to resume their activity on January 6th rested. Happy New Year!"

Florin Ropot, general director AFER SA
"Now at the threshold of a New Year, I wish to all my former and present work colleagues, to have in 2003 as many achievements as possible, on personal, as well as on profession plan, a lot of happiness and, not at last, good health, because it is better than everything! Happy New Year!"
