Modernity and Hygiene Works in the Railway Stations
Between August 20, and October 6, 2000 on the entire Zonal Department of the CFR Craiova, modernity and hygiene works were executed by our dedicated railway men in charge with such activities. These works consisted mainly of:
Repairs on the cover roofs - (different types of tiles and iron plates);
Repairs on the terrace roofs
Repairs on rain-pipes and drain pipes;
Repairs on the external wood masonry façade;
Repairs on the platforms;
Repairs on external plaster and painting on the external façade;
Painting the wooden and iron masonryThe number of railway stations where there have been executed all these above-mentioned works is 156 of which 38 railway stations have been cleaned up and embellished with funds belonging to CF Craiova Department, due to the Repairing and Maintenance of Assets Service. Several specialized firms, employed under a contract, accomplished the rest of the works.
On the initiative of the new management of the Ministry of Transportation, there have been decided to execute such repairing and modernity works in all railway stations, a big project coordinated by the management of the CNCFR-SA and by Bucharest Patrimony Department.
CF Brasov Zonal Department understood the importance of this project and construed it like an indispensable element for the integration of the Romanian railways in the European railway network.
The project, limited so far because of the pretty short dead lines, was further more important as the last repairing works in the small stations had already been executed 10 or 35 years ago.
The management of the CF Brasov Zonal Department included in this program a number of 142 railway stations that were totally changed, now being civilized places showing their architectural qualities that used to be lost along with the passing of time, because of the lack of the maintenance works.
But the cleaning-up session was not completed just with the changing on the external aspect of the railway stations, because the indoor too, has to be brought to a proper standard.
Thus, there is a program undergoing during the cold season, meant to insure also the solutions for the modernization of the indoor. The first stages preparing the effective works have already begun.
At the end of this program and of the works meant to improve the working conditions of the railway men of the CFR, we will be able to notice that it is possible that these components of the railway infrastructure represent a new card of the National Railway Company, CFR-SA.For those 140 anniversary years since the route Constanta-Cernavoda was first inaugurated, the management of CNCFR-SA conceived a complex program of modernity and hygiene for the entire Zonal Department of Constanta, including as well, a program for the improvement of the working conditions of its employees.
The project took place between 16.08.-30.09.2000, and included 132 of objectives on the 800 Thoroughfare and on the principal lines of the Zonal Department.
Repairing, painting works on the facades in the traditional colors of the Romanian Railways, repairing on roofs and attics, replacing of the drain pipes, rain pipes, repairing on the platforms and on the rails were just a few amendments that had to be done.
Thus, 71 halts and railway stations, 23 CED buildings, 14 administrative buildings of the maintenance and exploitation service, 10 platforms and roofs, plus a series of cabins and sanitary groups have now a totally changed aspect for the traveling public.
The total aggregate for these works is 10,2 billions. 12 authorized constructors from the railway departments of Medgidia, Calarasi, Slobozia and Tulcea performed these works.
This program presupposed many aspects: technical documentation bids, administrative plans, supervision of works in the field, amendments and supplementary ideas. Subsequently, the entire organization structure was mobilized in this process.
At the end of the project, the big event of October 6, 2000 made the reward to be more precious. There attended the Minister of Transportation, Anca Boiagiu and all the general mangers of the railway companies, in order to celebrate 140 years since Constanta-Cernavoda route was inaugurated for the first time.
This process of modernization of the railway stations is still going on, for CF Constanta Zonal Department with two other programs:
improvement of the working conditions for the employees of the Iron Way Trade Union;
improvement of the working conditions for the personnel working in freight and infrastructure sectors.One of the priorities of the National Railway Company CFR-SA, being the improvement of the image it holds, and of the conditions for travelers, is in fully consent with the directive the management of the CF Galati Zonal Department proposed to accomplish, as other zonal departments did.
The program included 105 stations and halts -which at first seemed to be almost impossible to accomplish within the short period of time available at the moment.
Thus, maintenance and repairing works were completed on roofs, covers, terraces, platforms, pipes, drain-pipes, masonry, façade, etc. All these works meant to insure not only a pleasant image but also an improvement of the security of the buildings, considering that for many of them such works had been executed many years ago.
Even if the initial deadline was delayed a little, the entire process could be considered a success, since on the quality issue, everything is perfect.
This process is completed. But the zonal department concern for the good look and the comfort within the railway stations is a long-term priority for the management of the zonal department. That is why, during all this time, an inventory checking of the works and equipment necessary in order to bring such railway stations at European standards. The management has proposed that by the end of this month to have all the necessary elements to establish a gradual program in order to aim the target.
Revision, repairing and modernizing works on the heat plants within the area of the zonal department are about to be finished. Another-top ten priority for this period is the improvement of the working conditions for the employees. In this sense, winter preparations for the L quarters are almost completed; last minute repairs and hygiene work are under way. Of course, here too, necessity surpasses possibilities. Our goal is to do whatever humanly possible to cover as much of these necessities as we can, stated Gheorghe Popescu, CF Galati Zonal Department Manger. For now, we can say that we will continue to better the image, comfort for travelers and working conditions for employees.Reporting Ana Stanciu
