Triumphal welcoming at the Otopeni airport
City cup at Bucharest
Monday night (29 may
2000), at the Otopeni airport our players were expected by a great number of supporters
came with fireworks and welcoming banners , by Mr. minister Traian Basescu ,Mr.Viorel
Simut, main manager of CN CFR-SA, by the federation’s representatives, as well as the
players relatives and friends.
Although tired the players toasted a cup of champgne to all the people
who came there to congratulate them.
The supporters were in the seventh haven when the coach Vasile
Margulescu held in his hands the victory Cup
Victory tasted good after Denmark

representative in the delegation witch chaperoned the handball feminine team Rapid CFR
Bucharest during the City Cup, confirming the last part of the competition jousted in
Denmark.
“ Although we had a very tough tour, that lasted almost seventeen
hours, we were lucky enough to have been expected by such wonderful hosts. We were offered
the chance to have all we needed. The offered services were perfect.
Ever since we arrived in Randers and until we left, the Romanian flag
was present on the City Hall of Randers and the lady mare was all this time present both
to the match and to the party we had after that.
Th gang of those 30 Romanian supporters from Denmark was indeed very
impressive and they were very supportive all this time! The sportive atmosphere as well as
the fair-play of the fans of the both parties is worth to be remembered; before the game
they shook hands and after the last whistle of the game they went out for a bier.
In my opinion, this final game was the most beautiful and the most
disputed one. Although not all the members of our delegation party were convinced that we
were going to bring the cup to Bucharest, our girls felt that way. Even if they had big
emotions they encouraged each other both before the game and during the playing as well;
they really are very closed together.
All those people standing watched the last
moments of the game. We already knew we were about to drink the champagne from the victory
cup, and the whistle announcing the end of the game was really a “ invasion of the
field”. We hugged each other, danced with joy; the girls had tears in they eyes, but
there were tears of happiness.
At the party, a pretty unpleasant moment occurred, but it had no
importance for us: the Danish, being sure of the victory, had put the table of the guests
(us) in a corner, but we didn’t care much since happiness we were carrying made us see
everything “pink”.
Peace and joy on our girls’ faces who were laughing and singing all
nightlong.
When the party was almost ready since there was no champagne left, we
poured some bottles of wine and water into the cup and everybody drank from the just
earned victory cup. We found this a fantastic combination, but I don’t think it was the
same for the Danish.
Nevertheless, we felt once again the Danish fair play on our way to the
airport, when the Randers HK ‘s coach got in our buss and congratulated our girls in the
name of the entire Danish team. It really was fantastic!”
Champions at Snagov
Saturday, the 3rd of June this
year- during the festive party organised by the National Railway Company CFR-SA and by the
minister of resort as well, not before of being congratulated by the Mr Traian Basescu and
Mr Viorel Simut, our handball players were rewarded for the trophy they won under the
colours of Rapid.
Cristina Dogaru, Monica Iacob (absent at this event), Adina MArgulescu,
Corina Ocos, Florica Preda and Iuliana Gheorghe received the “Sport master” title, the
other players – Alina Dobrin, Elena Iorgu, Cristina Mihai, Elena Napar, Nicoleta Gasca,
Carmen Bucur and Elena Vasile- already having the title of “emeritus maestro”. Coach
Vasile Margulescu received the title of “emeritus coach while Constantin Popescu the
second and the already “emeritus coach” was rewarded for his 50 years of handball
career with a diploma and a miniature of the Infinite Column by the Romanian
Handball Federation.
At Snagov , our players were accompanied by friends , husbands or
relatives which made possible for everybody to dance and have fun , enjoying the winning
of the European Trophy City Cup in the traditional Romanian way.

Now that Rapid CFR is a European champion proves once again the
positive aspects in the railway activity as well. All in all, it was worth, we achieved
