At the beginning of the 1998-1999 championship, feminine handball league of the Rapid Sports Club was taken over by the National Railway Company CFR SA.
Manager Viorel Simut, also chief of the handball section, promised that he would create all the conditions for the railway women team to achieve the best performances.
While during the 1996-1999 the Giulesti girls were about to be disqualified, in 1998-1999, with the support of the National Railway Company CFR, Rapid CFR Bucharest ranked the third place.
It was already obvious that Rapid CFR Bucharest had a solid “support”. In July 1999, the missing positions – goalkeeper, left inter and right inter were covered due also, to the CFR Company intervention who provides the players Cristina Dogaru, Monica Iacob and Cristina Mihai; that meant that the team was almost creamed off.
May 2000 brings along the European trophy City Cup, which proves once again that Bucharest Rapid CFR always knew to fully take advantage of the support they received, soon becoming a really great and powerful team.
