Railway, Attracting Young Graduates
Octavian Costea has graduated in 2000 within the Christian University "Dimitrie Cantemir" in Bucharest. He came to CFR-SA on January 2001 pursuant to an interview and he is in probation, phase that will be concluded soon through an exam for the entitling that he is waiting full of emotions. The position as jurist - consultant within the Commercial Department of a railway company of such of amplitude seems interesting because offers him the opportunity of a complex and demanding activity, and the practice is, he recognizes, more attracting than ... theory. He thinks that the evolution and the development of CFR-SA depend a lot on its economical and financial independence and in order to become profitable, the company will have to have a bigger liberty in contract signing and to reduce the interdependencies with other companies.
Railway field attracted him also due to his grandfather, who had worked in Timisoara Rail Region; he confesses that he wants to improve himself in commercial law, to study thoroughly the particularities that this practice holds.
Raluca Ionescu chose her current working place because she is willing to learn, and in a company with tradition as CFR - SA there are a lot of professionals from whom she can "steal" experience. Raluca graduated in 1998 the Academy of Economical Studies, specializing the Management of the Company, and according to the theory that she studies so thoroughly she wants to learn to handle also the practice. She says: "Now I want to integrate in the collective as well as possible and to bring my contribution to the well development of its activity".
She wants to attend master degree courses on International Affairs and European Integration and she sees the development of the Railways as a trump for the European integration of our country. She thinks that, although the tradition is important, CFR-SA must promote also the novelty. In this respect, regarding the things from the perspective of the sector where she is working in, she considers that a more aggressive marketing, the advertisement and promotion of the tourism complexes owned by CFR would bring supplementary incomes and, additionally, by attracting the tourists, would create a better image for our country around the world.
Margareta - Claudia Petrescu is the only one among the four interviewed who had no connection with railway world, she came to work here by chance. After the license exam at the Faculty of Law in Bucharest she found out about a contest for a jurist position within CFR - SA. She passed the test and still by chance she worked in almost all the departments of CFR - SA, having the opportunity to gain new knowledge from every sector. Within Real Estate Department, where she works now, she integrated very well and she considers that the work she is performing together with her current colleagues is benefic for the company. She is attending a Human Resources course because working with people seems to her very interesting, although it is not the most facile, but it is fitting her sociable and communicative way of being.
In point of the railway system she says that when she came to the company, in 1998, she saw it as being very complex and full of a traditionalist mentality. Now she affirms that the rigid structures have changed, becoming more flexible.
Cristian Ciucu is an engineer IV within the Rolling Stock Mechanization Department from Bucharest Rail Region, department that is in charge with the maintenance and exploitation of the machines and track heavy and small mechanization machinery, with the demands for locomotives, wagons, snowploughs, intervention trains and PSI from rail region equipment.
As graduate (1998) of the Faculty of Transport within Polytechnics University Bucharest, specializing Railway Rolling Stock, his hiring to CFR-SA was an obvious choice, especially that he is, as he told us, the forth generation of rail men, in the family already existing a tradition in this respect.
He considers that through his work he contributes to the safety of the transports on railway, task that is alike with the main objective of activity of CFR - SA. He is satisfied to work within this big company now, when there are developed modernization and rehabilitation works in a rapid rhythm and he has the chance to see the machines and competitive machinery performing complicated operations, of a very good quality and in a very short time. He also thinks that, by having a good infrastructure and forming qualified personnel, CFR - SA will have to gain a lot, also contributing to the development of the other railway companies.
