INTRODUCING THE SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS WITHIN REGIONAL COMPANIES

Iasi regional railway company CFR Sports Base Iasi

The Iasi Sports Association, founded in 1980, is working at the CFR Sports Base on National Highway no. 7 - 9 and includes six sections.

Body building, a section focused on performance, which brought numerous prizes on national and European level:
- Petru Ciorba - 17 times national champion, bronze winner at the 1996 European championships;
- Dan Florici - national seniors champion (1996);
- Rado Gherghel - first place in the national juniors championship and second place in seniors championship in 1997;
- Cristian Rauta - four national vice-champion titles;
Box, with several marking athletes:
- Constantin Velea - national juniors champion (1997, 1998);
- Mihai Danilov - 2nd and 3rd places at the national children's championship, national juniors champion (1997), national seniors champion (1998).
Baseball, an international section, focused on performance for juniors and children:
- 1st place at the international tournament in Sweden (1997);
- 2nd place at the Romanian Cup (1997);
- 3rd place at the national championship (1997);
- 4th place at the Romanian Cup (cadets - 1998);
- 3rd place at the national championship (1st place for juniors 1999);
Tennis, an initiation section for children and juniors.
Bowling, an international section (seniors and juniors) with a team that plays in the national championship - super league:
- Constantin Ciurdea, player in the national team;
- Daniel Varga - 5th place at the European juniors championship (1997);
- Constantin Ciurdea and Iulian Cucu - bronze medals at the national championships for pairs, individual and combined (1999). The tea also took 5th place at the Romanian Super League in 1997-1998.
Football, a county-level section that qualified for 4th place in Division C, 1999-2000.

Galati regional railway company

The Rapid CFR Galati club, founded in 1933, has the following sections:
Rugby, with 30 athletes, coached by Viorel Secuianu, playing in Division A;
Tennis
This section, a member of the Romanian Tennis Federation, has 50 athletes (children, juniors and seniors). The seniors team attended in 1995 the European Railway Tennis Championship in Sweden. The children and juniors team won numerous metals in national cups. Because of the financial shortages, the best athletes moved to other clubs.
The Galati association of hunters and fishermen, founded in 1992, has 60 members. In 1995, the fishermen team attended the European Railway Championships in Belgium.

Craiova regional railway company

The CFR Craiova Sports Association, founded in 1947, has three sports sections - football, box and chess, and their own sports base includes two football fields, a basketball field and a volleyball and tennis field.
The CFR Craiova football team has been plying for years in Division C, but was downgraded to Division D also because of the financial situation. But in this championship, they earned the top places, and many gifted players moved to Division A teams. Nowadays, there is a talented young base that gives hope for promotion to Division C.
The chess section plays only nationally, and has had notable results lately.
The box section is known for its success in 1998 and 1999:
- Alin Sarba - bronze medal (81 kg category) at the European Cadets Championship (1998);
- Sorin Tanasie - 1st place (48 kg category) at the World Juniors Championship in Argentina (1998(, declared the most technical boxer of the event; national juniors champion in the 48 kg category (1999);
- three national juniors titles.

Brasov regional railway company

Since establishment in 1958, the Brasov Railways Sports Association included a football team, a bowling section and a ski section.
Football section
The football section has had good results over the years by promotion into Division D (1997) and Division C (1998), and at the end of the 1999 championship tournament, the seniors team took the 17th place, with 19 points.
The section has three more teams in the championship, juniors A, juniors B and cadets, who achieved the following results:
- juniors team A(coach Vasile Bobolicu) - 7th place with 18 points;
- juniors team B (coach Liviu Ciugolea) - 8th place with 16 points;
- cadets team (coach Dan Nerghes) - 4th place with 22 points in the county championship.
The rugby section was founded in 1968. For ten years, the team has built value in Division B, and was ranked among the first four places. Presently, is plays in Divion A under Ironim Hulpoi (main coach) and Costel Gavril (deputy coach), and has 5th place in the second series. The team suffered major changes and currently includes talented players coming from junior lots.
The bowling section plays in the county championship, where it has good results.
