NEW UTILITIES FOR
A MODERN INFRASTRUCTURE

The National Railway Company CFR-SA carries out through the loans granted by the World Bank a program for the purchase of heavy railway machines and utilities and as a result of this, the park of rolling material will be endowed according to the current requirements in the field.

After the new organization of the Romanian Railways, new operating principles were imposed to the Romanian railway system, as follows:

the exploitation and maintenance activities of the public railway infrastructure which are performed separately from the one for the operating of services for railway transport;

the public and the private patrimony of the railways is exploited on economic criteria;

the access to the infrastructure of different railway operators is accomplished under competitive conditions;

the administration of the railway infrastructure is performed by adopting the cost-benefit analysis for each performed activity.

The basic activity of the company is the repair and maintenance of the railway infrastructure in the prescribed safety and comfort parameters, carrying also out in parallel well-defined activities in regard to the modification of the network.

The analysis of the structure of the park held by the company has naturally led to the highlighting of an incomplete and obsolete outfit - the great majority of the machines were manufactured between the years 1965-1970. A long-term program was drawn up, which aims at the purchase of efficient railway machines and outfits.

CFR-SA has organized on 2 April this year in the precincts of the station Bucharest-Baneasa a presentation of the purchased outfit up to now:

the stemming machine Plasser&Theurer of the UNIMAT type 08-16;

the stemming machine Plasser&Theurer of the DUOMATIC type 09-32 CSM;

the stemming machine for railway devices Plasser&Theurer of the type 08-475 4S-R;

the machine for mechanically stabilizing the rails Plasser&Theurer of the DGS type 62H;

the outfit for replacing railway devices Geismar of the PUM type;

the multifunctional self-propelled machine on rails and road of the COLMAR type;

the form cutter machine Plasser&Theurer of the 3,000 C type;

outfit for replacing rail devices Desec, type TL 70;

wagon for the transport of boards for pre-assembled rail devices, type VR TTVS 84521;

machines of small mechanization with hydraulic activation, machine for polishing ax elements, type MC 3, machine for bolting type TC-H, machine for cutting rails with abrasive disc;

These machines and outfits are already used for maintenance on the thoroughfares Bucharest-Constanta and Bucharest-Brasov and this year are going to be awarded the modernization works on the corridor Bucharest-Brasov, which is part of the pan-European Corridor IV. At the end of this work, the circulation speed shall raise to 160 km/h and the purchased machines will contribute to the maintenance of the extremely precise parameters which are necessary for the safety of the traffic and the comfort of the passengers.
