Environment Indicators, a Ruling Collocation

A meeting dedicated to the achievement of a common frame for future actions regarding the environment protection took place in Paris, in June, under the aegis of UIC and RAVEL Project (sponsored by EU), the measures aiming the definition of some environment indicators in rail sector. These indicators should be of a great help for the companies in their battle for diminishing the impact of their activities on the environment, in their rapid alignment to the international legislation, having as advantages funds saving and more efficient communication, internally, as well as externally, in environment protection sector.
On European plan the above mentioned items are treated as vital problems by all the countries involved in the rail activity, operators, infrastructure administrators or building industry. These ones use their own managerial instruments in order to measure and supervise periodical performances obtained in their own environment protection activity.
Within the meeting from Paris they agreed upon the "environment coordinates" between the participants: UIC members, OSJD members, European Commission representatives, as well as the representatives of some non-governmental organizations and profile industry. European Environment Agency and EUROSTAT have also been invited to express their opinion on the environment indicators that are relevant to every country, on TERM report bases.
UIC working group on environment problems presented on this occasion the Guide for environment indicators establishment for railway. Within the meeting have been decided that this guide to be completed in the future and proposed as technical documentation for C6 UIC Committee, that is in charge with the economy, finance and environment protection. The guide includes indicators for all the railway sectors.
The representatives of EU RAVEL Project also recommended a set of environment indicators in order to purchase the rolling stock fleet, the systems and worn components of the railway.
This working reunion proved, this way, a good occasion to tighten the relations between the factors involved in the environment pollution reduction process, aspect as advantageous as possible for the future evolution of the measures in this sector, on national level, as well as international.
