1C-h2 Engines, series CFR 130.500

Engines 1C types were among most common models in the CFR park. During 1935, 350 such items were registered. For freight and passengers trains traction, the 1C locomotives were built between 1905-1921, the last items being given for cassation in 1970.
Grouped on series and years of fabrication, the 1C locomotives within the CFR park were as follows:

The 1001-1078 locomotives were the first ones in the CFR's park, on Walschaerts distribution principle. Having 80km/h as maximum speed, they were used on trains traction especially on secondary routes in Moldavia, Muntenia; they were also used on maneuver until 1937. The locomotives in this series belonged to depots from Iasi, Pascani, Adjud, Marasesti, Buzau, Galati, Constanta, Titu and Campulung Muscel. The last items of this series were given to cassation in 1940.

The above mentioned locomotives with a maximum speed of 70 km/h were used mainly for freight or passenger trains' tugging until 1948. The locomotives with the 1351-1377 series were the first of the CFR's locomotives with Schmidt over heating systems.
These type of locomotives were used also on the railways from Basarabia, even if they belonged to the deopts of Iasi, Buzau, Pascani and Marasesti. General repairing was performed in the Iasi and Galati ateliers and between 1930-1932 in UDR too. The last items of this type were given to cassation in 1950.

1C 1409 Engines (Jung 1881/13)Locomotives belonging to the 2034-2073 series had a Schmidt over heater, 21 smokestacks with a 133/125 mm diameter and the over heated surface of 34.8 square meters. The first units (2001-2033 series) were used to tow passenger trains until 1947; the rest were used until the '60s.
After the end of the First World War the Plzen Skoda factories received an order for 80 1C-h2 locomotives - the CFR 130.501-580 series (Skoda 91-170/21). This particular kind of locomotive had at its basis the 2034-2073 series project and it was destined for towing passenger trains on narrow lines.
The locomotives were located mainly in the depot parks in Iasi, Adjud, Buzau, Giurgiu, Titu, Fetesti and Bucharest Travellers and they were used during their last years of activity for towing freight trains and maneuvers - especially on industrial lines. General repairs were made in the Iasi, Gal;ati and Simeria ateliers.

Technical characteristics:

The last locomotives of the series were still used for maneuvers in the '70s:

In 1972 for the celebration of 100 years service of the Bucharest North station, 130.510 Engines (Skoda 100/1921) the locomotive 130.569 (Skoda 159/21) was restored and put on display. Two years later the locomotive underwent a number plate change - 130.503, perhaps because of an error in the cassation documentation. Today, the CFR Museum patrimony states that the locomotive 130.503 as a display that could be viewed with the occasion of the Baneasa Station display in October 1994. Now it is on display in the Steam Locomotive Museum in the Sibiu Depot.130.541 Engine; Foto: Antonio Bianco
The last locomotive that still exists out of this series 130.525 (Skoda 115/21) is restored and put on display at the Fetesti depot and is part of the CFR Museum patrimony.
With their ancient and fragile aspect, the 130.500 series brought loyal services to the CFR for over 50 years. Maybe in a few years we will see again one of the two locomotives still in existence towing trains of nostalgia on secondary CFR lines.
