The Managerial Engineering for Railway University
A Facility For The Children Of The Railway People
Interview with Dr. Engineer Dumitru Mihailescu, executive president of the Foundation for the promotion of the railway science and technology
Railway Journal: Mr. President, which is the
role played by this foundation within the Ecological University of Bucharest?
Dumitru Mihailescu: The Foundation for the promotion of the
railway science and technology (PROFER), together with the National Railway Company
CFR SA and with the other railway companies have decided to set up the Managerial
Engineering for Railways University, for the purpose of training managers engineers
for the railway field. The students are being prepared according to the specific programs
for railway development and modernization. The PROFER Foundation knows the railway
priorities, and consequently, we expect that after the graduation the students will become
the specialists that the railway needs.
RJ: Which are the provisions of the protocol concluded
between PROFER and the Ecological University?
DM: The protocol clearly provides certain rules and obligations, for both parties.
It is provided that the training of the students to be made based on topics that are very
specific for the railways. The Ecological University Bucharest has the obligation to
ensure the organizational framework necessary for the activity of the faculty and the
necessary space for the students. Our duty as well as the one of the National Railway
Company CFR SA is to guarantee a good level of the training as well as working places
after the graduation. Without any oligations, the students having remarkable results will
benefit from studentships, awarded by the National Railway Company CFR SA and by the
managers of the other railway companies.
I would like to underline that for the children of the railway people the admission
procedure based on the admission contest and personal records and not based on interviews.
RJ: Is there any chance to establish, in the near future,
certain connections with the foreign universities having the same profile?
DM: Through the Domestic and international relations department of the PROFER
Foundation, we are trying to establish connections with the similar European universities
and especially with railway foundations in Germany and Italy. The purpose of such
connections is, first of all, the recognition of our specialists graduates of the
above-mentioned university by foreign universities, and secondly we will attempt to
give the students the possibility to make practical workouts abroad.
RJ: Which are the facilities that the young graduates will
benefit from?
DM: The facilities are very similar with the ones offered by other universities,
public or private. In my opinion there is a slight difference, i.e. the level of the
specific railway training that is higher at the Managerial Engineering for Railway
University.
The students are being trained based on European methods, by acquiring thus knowledge in
different fields such as law, economy, technical management, etc.
At the end, I can underline that a young graduate, based on his personal performances, may
be integrated in the internal railway structures, management positions of the regional
agencies or even at Companys head office and railway companies.
