We Are Rebuilding The Tradition Of The Railway Engineers
Interview with Dr. Engineer Dolphi Drimer, rector of the Ecological University Bucharest
Railway Journal: How do you see the collaboration with the
Foundation for the promotion of the railway science and technology?
Dolphi Drimer: It is a very important cooperation. This foundation is trying, by
developing the railway activity, to realize beneficial things for the railways. From their
side we benefit from teachers, i.e. railway specialists that are able to teach our
students, and from working places for the young graduates. It is a beneficial cooperation
due to the fact that we have the specialty of the fundamental topics taught by our
teachers and they are transmitting us the specific of the railway world.
RJ: Do you consider that the courses are at external
standards?
DD: Yes, because we have created modern programs to fit the complexity of the
railway world. We have taken into account a fact that currently has become real: the
railway is not only an iron road but also an extremely important managerial activity. Even
if for the beginning we will have 15 to 20 graduates we hope that in the near future their
number will increase. The railway is being through a complex modernization process, which
implies the need for specialists. Our role is to create them.
RJ: The Ecological University of Bucharest will build a
campus. Do you consider necessary that a part of it to be destined to the Managerial
Engineering for Railway University?
DD: The campus will be built on 8,000 sm. behind the Botanical Garden. It will have
rooms and laboratories due to the fact that besides the Managerial Engineering for Railway
University there are other sections basing their activity on the practical laboratory
experience. Till the campus will be built, the students will be trained in the specially
arranged halls at the former Machinery Equipment Manufacture. Another possibility, not
yet finalized, would be the former Polytechnics in Polizu, where we hope to obtain few
rooms and laboratories.
RJ: Is the Ecological University of Bucharest the only one
offering this specialty?
DD: There could be another one in Timisoara. I would like this specialty to be
offered by other universities also, in order to ensure the competition. If we are the only
managerial engineering section in the country, this means that we cannot prove how good we
are, because we dont have competitors.
RJ: Which is the mission of this University?
DD: This University comes to enlarge the ecological domain, i.e. to extend the
technical engineering activity to the railway field. In many countries, the railway
network is accused for provoking damages to the environment. The collaboration between the
managerial engineering and ecology means to prevent this idea from being mentioned.
